A-Z Information
Breakfast
Breakfast is served daily between 7:30am – 9:30am, although we can cater for earlier starts by arrangement. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
Children
The Lyn Valley Guest House welcomes children, with no age restriction. There is one Family Suite, featuring a double room and twin room. Children can also stay on Z-beds in our other rooms, or alternatively in their own rooms, at a concessionary rate. High chairs and travel cots are available on request for our younger guests.
Please note that the Lyn Valley Guest House is situated overlooking the West Lyn River. Children therefore must be supervised at all times to ensure their safety around this fast river and deep gulley. Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
Exmoor Arts
We believe in supporting local talent, and all the displayed artwork on our ground floor is from a local group of painters, photographers and artists called Exmoor Arts. Feel free to browse the artwork, inspired by breathtaking Exmoor. Please let us know if you are interested in purchasing any of the works.
Extra Linen / Pillows
There are extra pillows and a quilt in the drawer underneath your bed, or in your wardrobe. If you would like anything further, please do not hesitate to ask.
Guest Lounge
The Guest Lounge is on the ground floor and open 24h. There is a small bar within the lounge – please feel free to help yourself to drinks and nibbles (prices are shown on the Honesty Bar Tariff), and simply fill out the Honesty sheet provided.
You are also welcome to pre-order any drinks / extras you would like during your stay to be delivered to your room – please see the Bar Tariff to the left for prices.
Heating
There is a wall heater in your room and a towel radiator in the bathroom. There is no timer on either of these, so please feel free to turn them up/down or on/off as you like (the controls are under the flap on the top right hand side of the bedroom heater).
Please feel free to ask if you have trouble adjusting any of these.
Housekeeping
We have a daily housekeeping service (the bed is made, bathroom cleaned, and any consumables topped up). However, if you would prefer for us not to enter your room, just let us know at check-in or breakfast on the day. Instead, we can leave a top-up for your consumables (eg. tea/coffee) outside your room for you.
Towels – we’re commited to reduce waste-water and energy, and therefore will only change towels during your stay if requested. If you would like fresh towels, please leave your current ones in the bath – otherwise, they will be left for your future use.
Internet
Complimentary wireless internet is available throughout the guest house, configurable as follows:
Guest Lounge / Ground Floor: Lyn Valley Guest House WiFi
First Floor (Rooms): Upstairs@LVGH or Upstairs@LVH
The upstairs networks are broadcast from opposite sides of the building, so connect to the one that shows the best signal for you.
Password: gogowifi (for all networks)
Keys & Access
Your keys consist of a room key and a front door key. Whilst you are out, please ensure to take your keys with you. When leaving through the door on the guest room access side, please ensure to close the door firmly behind you, so as to engage the lock.
Laundry Facilities
A wash, dry and fold service is available for £10 per load (max. 6kg), subject to availability. We use a 40 degree cycle, and dry using the low setting on our tumble dryer. Items are then folded and left for you outside your room.
Please ask at reception if you would like to make use of this service.
An iron and ironing board are also available for guest use – we will bring this to your room for you on request (please leave outside your room when done).
Lighting
For your convenience, there are switches on the wall, either side of the bed which control the bedside lights, in addition to the switches when you enter the room. For this reason, the switches on the lamps should be left in the ON position.
Mobile Phones
An EE mast has recently been connected in the village which provides a signal for EE users through the village. Signal for other providers is still quite patchy.
As an alternative, there is a cordless phone in the Guest Lounge, and a coin box next to it which can be used to make a contribution for calls.
Full mobile phone signal can also be found in Lynton.
Packed Lunches
Packed lunches are available for £6 each and include a sandwich, packet of crisps, biscuits and a piece of fruit. If you would like to order these, we do need your menu choices by 9pm the evening before, so they can be made fresh for you to collect at breakfast. The menu can be found at the end of the guest information. Orders can be placed at reception, or by emailing laura@lynvalleyguesthouse.com – we will reply to confirm your order.
Shower
In your shower there are two knobs – the upper one controls the water strength (on-off), while the lower one controls the water temperature (anticlockwise for hotter, clockwise for cooler). As the water is high pressure, please ensure correct temperature before using.
Spillages
Many of our fabric room furnishings require careful cleaning treatments, and stains can be very resilient. For this reason, we would appreciate that in the unfortunate event that spillages do occur, you let us know as soon as possible so that the carpet / furnishing can receive pre-treatment to remove the stains. Thank you for your assistance.
Taxis
We recommend Neil from Lyn Valley Taxis. His number is 07907161666, and you can pre-book with him to get collected when required. He charges roughly £4.50 for a taxi to Lynton (Spring 2023 price).
Tea & Coffee
The complimentary tea & coffee in your room includes UHT milk. If you are staying in our Family Suite, or a Deluxe King Room (Rooms 1-4) then there is also fresh milk in the fridge in your room. If you’re in our Standard King Room (Room 5), then please help yourself to the fresh milk in the Honesty Bar Fridge.
Walking Maps
Walking maps are available to buy at reception for £3 – they cover the local area (Watersmeet, Countisbury, Valley of the Rocks, as well as either the Doone Valley or Heddon Valley on the reverse).
